Also we are working on onchain voting for a governance system, but this we want to decide with the community like a constitution (experimental atm)

Has on-chain voting ever worked out well? Looking at past attempts it seems more trouble than good. Not just because it can and will be gamed, but also because it is a hassle that gets in the way of user experience.

Put another way: has the lack of democracy in a virtual world ever hurt the experience?

I think the trick is not letting the community vote on matter which could lead to big disasters eventually, or hurt the community itself. Otherwise i don't see anything wrong with it.

there's no need for actual voting, people vote with their dollars so if a project is doing right it will be worth more.

At the moment not, but in the future voting about upcoming decisions can be very good and can motivate the community to become a part of the project.
I am not sure about Rigorous objection, but he could also be right with the statement, that voting from the masses also can go in a wrong direction.
Its a little bit risky to give the power to the community, but its worth a trial. I think the masses will have the power in the future (decentralization).
Lets hope that swarm will have enough intelligence to go into the right direction.
