It is why I think that ohGodaGirl  may be the villainess and not squirrels.

But all I am doing is guessing an explanation as to why they don't have software and never proved software works.

I bailed when mfurman asked over and over and over for software and was treated poorly.

kudos to him I hope he got multiple people to bail.

I also hope oHGodaGirl is the villainess and that someone gets new working software for this gear.
