How do we know anyone has not edited or deleted posts before they are banned.<

As far as I can recall, a banned account is not locked, so it is still possible to log into the account but not create, move, alter posts, nor send PMs from the account.
People can edit or delete (not all, depending on the board) their posts before they are banned, so if they feel they are in the process of being caught plagiarizing or whatnot, they could alter the evidences. That is why some people quote the plagiarized post and/or archive them to an external site for reference. Nevertheless, I figure internally there is some way to track these changes on the live DB (admins/mods?).
Yes this is how I thought it worked. So if someone is banned then it is impossible for them to at that point go back and edit things.
The fact they can do anything they want before being banned ( i suspect most of these that got a plagiarised post spotted since 2015 or whatever were not expecting anything like that) goes for anyone on the entire board.
I don't expect most people as yet realise there is a huge effort to find any copy and paste and ban them or some persons will just hammer delete on their entire post histories to make sure.
