To be completely fair, after the name change from RaiBlocks to NANO the price did go down and interest in the coin dwindled.
And this was during the heights of Bitcoin, devs should have kept RaiBlocks but I guess listening to corporate marketing teams is more important than the userbase.
It's possible that the change of name had some effect on price, but in general rebranding is not the cause that price is go down. BitGrail Nano hack is made much more damage than anything else since between 150$ million and 200$ million is hacked at that time. All those users who have lost coins then were deeply disappointed and most stopped to support Nano.

BTC correction after 2017 ATH made the rest. It would be unrealistic to expect that Nano price is 10$ today, but in next
BTC pump I am sure Nano will go up, so this is great time to buy more coins.
