XRP is really good, but to my knowledge, the XRP is currently only used for money transfer purposes.
ETH has the foundation of thousands of ICO projects.

As I see, both XRP and ETH will be struggling for the second place in the cryptocurrencies rating. Suppose that in less than 2-3 months, Ethereum will become the winner, and Ripple will be the 3rd currency again.
I think that's how it will be. I like XRP very much, the coin is really promising in its developments. But even if it is to stand in the third place, I don't think this place will make the coin completely useless and not in demand. Even in third place, the future of XRP will obviously be very bright.
