Match summary for those brothers and sisters who missed the event but have love for tennis:
Rublev easily overpowered Lucas Pouille, whose disappointing recent form continues. Pouille was continually knocked back by the pace of the ball coming at him, with the court playing quite fast in the heat. He found himself down a set and a break before he could get into the match at all, and such a quick first set also didnt allow time for Rublev to have one of his usual dips. The Russian simply wasnt missing much though, dominating play with his power and never facing a breakpoint, and Pouilles lack of a plan B to break that rhythm became painfully apparent. Rublev 21w 12ue; Pouille 11w 23ue. Rublev 6/2 6/3.
Lucas Pouille is now working with Amelie Mauresmo, not sure how it will work out, she should be a good coach and the effects of the teaming won't become apparent straight away anyway, but yes he's been a massive disappointment last twelve months. Cannot believe he made it to the top 10 for a few weeks, taking advantage of weak fields in small events.
Hope Andrey Rublev will deliver this season, even though his game is really one dimensional at the moment.
