You guys can't really deny the fact that there are helping hands out here already who are willing to hand out their merits to someone who dares to show them the work done, efforts taken in order to get them, it's just that this has now become a trend to cry and shout out loud (and even beg) for merits without giving least efforts of searching what they are being given for. 
Exactly. I've made several threads in order to help people get merits in my local thread, kinda like a merit challenge thread where they need to complete some task (of course it is related to posting/making a thread and crypto in general). Sadly only a few members participated, yet most people still think merits is only given to friends, etc. It's quite annoying tbh, when we try to help them but they still think begging/whining can give them what they want.
