Hitbtc and cryptopia are both terrible exchanges and should just dissapear.
They are dinosaur relics from the past and are totally unsecure and can't support its own customers.

The golden standard for an exchange is binance.
They have low fees and respond to problems quickly.

But, in the end, it is not the exchanges that is the major problem.
The major problem is that crypto is still new, it is a lawless market.
AS the market develops and matures over the years, more securities and regulations will make it more stable.
This includes security.
How many times do you hear the stock market getting hacked? someday crypto will be like that.
