There are millions of coins sitting on the exchange and people are trading them back and forth or its some miners that do weekly sales instead of just dumping as soon as the coins confirm.
You also need to understand that $8.5K is a very small amount of trades in 24 hours.
Once the wallet is re-opened I am expecting a huge surge of sell orders since many will all dump at once, especially miners who need to pay electricity bills.
