Depending on the token you can try DEx approach. Waves used to have in-wallet access to its DEx. There is a fee there too, but usually it's small enough and also no minimum deposit.
You really expect established exchanges list all and every coin and token and do it for free?! They use resources for each new coin and a business will not run without some profit...
