I think whitepaper will not give you a lot of insight about the project basically whitepaper is a concept and it can't be trusted at all remember there is a lot of developers were changing its plan during the development.
You should try to do a deep research about the project just like the code, the team and legal support
That is a good point. I have seen some whitepaper have their following versions. Some of its features on the whitepapers are being removed due to some instances. But most of it has added new features and detailed information. Still a research must be done.
