Version 4.0  - 17/05/2020 ( roughly 430 profiles merited (by me) in just under an hour)

On this occasion, I have re-merited posts (that I’d previously merited at some point) following this criteria:

-   Merit the last post I’ve previously merited
-   Of all non-banned profiles
-   That have been active this year (logged-in during 2020)
-   No merit nor rank barrier.

Unfortunately, this is quite manual ultimately, and some mistakes were made on this occasion, leading to a few profiles being merited more than once in this batch, and a few more skipped altogether. Oh bother …

Version 3.0  - 24/02/2020 ( 244 profiles merited (by me) in 23 minutes)

My personal earned sMerit batch has now piled out to a significant figure, and I just don’t want it there piling up for nothing, so I’ve decided to go once again on a wee merit spree in order to reduce the amount, whilst trying to use a criteria that is reasonable. On this occasion, I have re-merited posts (that I’d previously merited at some point) following this criteria:

-   Merit the last post I’ve previously merited
-   Of all non-banned profiles
-   That have been active this year (logged-in during 2020)
-   That have a total Merit count of under 250 merits (as of last Friday) – so as to focus on mid-to-low ranks

I have currently merited 908 different profiles, so the above criteria seemed fitting to re-merit some of them. Eventually, it was down to 244 posts that I merited, since a couple were either deleted or on ignore.

Version 2.0  - 19/07/2019 ( 278 profiles merited (by me) in 30 minutes)

I gave it a rethink, and have decided to go on a second sMerit awarding spree from my personal batch. As before, my intention was to re-merit some posts that I had already merited previously (thus no need for me to review the post’s content) in order to get rid of my personal sMerits in a coherent manner. Since I normally award sMerits in TX of 1 (for the most), this allows me to lose my close to Ebenezer Scrooge complex when awarding sMerits, for a short interval of time at least.

I have currently merited 513 different profiles. Since my personal sMerit batch is a bit under 300, I’ve had to trim the candidates to something reasonable.

Criteria (based on merit data as of this morning):
Award an additional sMerit to the last merited post (by me) of any profile that also meets:
-   The last post merited by me has only been merited once by me (this allows me to not re-merit a same post both on spree v 1.0 and spree v 2.0).
-   Regardless of the rank.
-   The post was posted in 2019.
-   The post has not received more than 10 sMerits, adding up all those received from anybody.

That trimmed my list of candidate posts from 513 to 286, which fits my sMerit budget. Eventually, it was down to 278 posts that I merited, since 8 were either deleted or on ignore.

Version 1.0  - 03/02/2019 ( 250 profiles merited (by me) in 1 hour and 2 minutes – What’s got over me?)

I’m still stretching my fingers after going on a merit awarding streak, having just merited 250 people with a single merit in just over an hour. Have I gone bonkers? No more than I may already be …

Looking over my personal sMerits, I saw that I has over 250 sMerits. On top of that, I’m also a merit source, with a now decent monthly allowance (albeit very little free personal time as of late). Since my merit source allowance was basically exhausted, and it will start to refill this coming week, I thought that I’d take some time to (nearly) empty my personal sMerit pool. I came to consider multiple criteria:

-   LMFR (last merited by me, first re-merited)
-   FMFR (first merited by me, first re-merited)
-   Proportional to the amount of sMerit I’ve sent in the past to each profile
-   Proportional to the amount of sMerit TXs I’ve sent in the past to each profile
-   Flat merit per merited profile.
(I discarded using backstabber compensations et al …).

I’ve ended-up choosing the later criteria, and settled on the following refinement:
- Considered all distinct profiles I have merited in the past (from day one).
- Limit them to those that have been active (date of last active on their profile) during 2019.

My current Sent sMerit Network consists of 305 different forum members. After filtering by the above criteria, it was down to 256.

What I then did was award 1 sMerit to the last post I had merited for each of those 256 forum members. Well, 250 really, since 6 had a deleted post as my last merited post, and I decided to skip those (and not default to searching for an alternative post for those 6 cases).
During the process, I had to unignore 3 or 4 people that I has merited in the past at some point and were on my (small) ignore list. They will remain off the list. I may also have made an error or two during my crazy meriting hour, or perhaps not.

I’ve explained the above procedure not so much with the intent of justifying myself, but with the idea that it may serve as an encouragement for others who may wish to distribute some of their personal sMerits that, in cases like mine, are piling up with not much chance of currently going into circulation.

Note: I’m not sure if this is better suited in Reputation, but the intent was to show how I got the above chip of my shoulder
