I've read that Bitcoin Gold is quite easy and cheap to attack with a 51% attack. Any plans to secure the coin somehow?

The coin was actually attacked months ago (I remembered I read it somewhere).
Due to months ago, if I remembered incorrectly, sorry for this.
But as you said, there is an article on estimated cost to attacks coins, and the cost for attacks on BTG network is so cheap.

So what has been the use of this coin so far? Is there any real advantage over using bitcoin? I know for sure they can't beat the popularity of usage of bitcoin.

I think no one coin could be surpassed BTC value lols. There are so many speculation last year that litecoin will surpass Bitcoin, as i expected , this never happened!!!

yes, I've also thought litecoin would over bitcoin at the time, but never happened ethereum and ripple so far no way at all able to go beyond bitcoin, so too much speculation is done by many people in this forum

Until now no one has been able to surpass Bitcoin, there is a lot of speculation and hope in Altcoin to be able to shift bitcoin but the reality is indeed zero. Bitcoin gold itself can only run lower and capitalization also starts to be shifted by other altcoins.
