I believe choosing short term or long term would be depends on our need on that fund. If we wish to look for quick profit then choosing the short term will be better, and vice versa. It need to be decided at the beginning of the investment phase.

But as long as we know how to pick the right coin, then it will no need to take a long time to see the investment will grow so we can sell the coin to take that profit. We need to think about what we will choose for the investment, and I think we can choose both short-term and long-term investment.
