How about the storage capacity of the websites someone can host? Is that limited by the blockchain? If yes, the websites are going to be rather simple right?

Yes, OpenWeb Network websites has limit of 500kb in size but if assets are more than 500kb than resources can be published in multiple domains.

Got it, but there are websites that are way bigger than that right? So you may need 100s of domains to host something?

There is a possibility of scaling websites by having few domains in the ecosystem that host just libraries. These domains can be used by multiple websites thereby optimising storage and removing redundant files.
Also, the websites don't have to be necessarily simple as they can be connected to external apis/ smart contracts.


But connecting them to external APIs or smart contracts makes them being dependent, for example, or external oracles, which in turn could be attacked or taken down again. It is difficult to build a purely open web given who controls most of the infrastructure.
