Perhaps popular is understatement nor isn't a good one, it sounds more like a hype for me. Just use the word trusted and established.
So yeah buy bitcoin and eth and don't buy those hype coins whereas you'll regret it afterwards. Don't believe on their empty promises.

And as a beginner, don't pursue trading, just hold it like mid to long term, as what they say, zero profit is better than losses.
