This is actually false. I heard this mentioned before somewhere, where the idea is for a gambler to just play for fun, just to get it out of their system so they don't actually lose any real money but there are issues.

The problem is that if a gambler is playing for fun or demo or fake money and they lose a bunch of "fake" money then they will get it out of their system and might avoid gambling. The issue is if the gambler actually wins a bunch of "fake" money and actually becomes more and more addicted because they think they are missing out playing for monopoly money, and so they start gambling with real money.

For a gambler to quit gambling, they basically need to stay away from any forms of gambling games like dice, blackjack, poker, etc.
