You are right but you must keep some money on exchanges to trade. But exchanges are not safety. It is bad for the crypto industry.
There used to be cases when we knew about the hacking of the exchanges, recently I have not heard about it, maybe they are taking into account or have given security due attention. Wallet definitely require security from the users themselves.
