I would always suggest SSD. But for old machines, you can go for a hybrid option.

If your motherboard has m2 slot, it will be a lot easier to place ssd. On the other hand, replace your hdd with DVD-writer slot and place ssd as a primary hard disk. When you upgrade your PC with SSD, it is always recommended to boot OS from SSD. You will spot the difference immediately.
