I would invest 40% in BTC, 40% in ETH and the rest 20% I'd leave for new and perspective altcoins
Eth and bitcoin are good coins to invest your money but I think it is not good to spread is in more than one or max two coins, as 1000 dollar is not miner amount of money so better dont waste and it and invest on promising crypto currency, so soon your money will become 2000 dollar after holding and investing
