Not really. People were able to mine maxcoin from the start. Some people just don't know how to use a command line on windows, so they should blame themselves
you are missing some facts here, there was no working osx wallet, no working wallet for 64 bit windows ( at least win8 ) and maxcoind also crashed on win64.
i got lucky to mine a block on cpu in the beginning so im not pissed that i didnt get my piece of the cake
it just was a massive fail launch like this one (ok this one seems to fail way harder though ).
