I think it's a bit more than a rumor. Litecoin generally tends to implement these things faster and quicker and then pave the way for other coins like Bitcoin esepcially. Litecoin is always a good coin to have because of this, because its development is respected and it is willing to test out new tech without all the drama of fighting over which tech is better or "more true to the original vision".
