Hello! Right now that means that the coins will be burned (destroyed), thus lowering the circulating supply and allowing their replacements to be mined fairly on the upgraded chain.
The private messaging built into the GUI was one of the most impactful features of the old version.

That is still one of our core features and it will be reincorporated in an update that's just around the corner.
