sorry if this has already been answered but.. If i only buy 1 unit of the Gridseed, do I still need the "wiibox" controller, power supply, and USB hub? Or can it be driven directly from my computer?
Technically you can run all of these off of a computer....the wiibox allows you to not need a computer is all (ala running it off a Rasberry Pi).

Any recommendation on which software I should be using along with the Gridseed miner?
You have to use the custom version of cpuminer that is provided...ordinary builds of cgminer and the like won't work for these devices. There's also a USB driver which you need to install in order for Windows to correctly detect the device.
I should be getting mine soon, so I'll be able to give you more specific answers but until then, this is what I understand based on reading a lot of threads across both bitcointalk and litecointalk.
