No; there is no competitive alternative. IMO, the message leaked because of the power they stand to lose.
I have no power, nor is anyone obliged to share any PM with me nor would I be able to know/prove that they got it. Weak-play; but he got beaten at his own game-theory. 
The small wins matter for the greater good.There is no requirement of anything when leaving red-trust now: No risked amount, no scamming, heck probably not even outright lying.
