"Household"? You meant the house right? Well I sure bet some "tried" to beat it but just like the Wall, the House remains undefeated.

In a sense a casino is a metaphor for life. We only pretend, lie to ourselves that we can "beat it," that we can control it when in fact, it's all half chances.

Right. The house controls the system and every games that all player plays, the house has percentage to get. If you lose, the house gets all your money but if you win, practically, you will not get it a hundred percent because of house edge. I also thinks that the house tends to make you win on the first rounds and if youre already enjoying, they reverse the process and makes it a continuous loss so there's really no way of beating them.

I don't even think they need to do that. They have that weapon they call statistics. People just have enough odds to win back every now and then to keep playing. Even more so in slots in physical casino where the sights and sound of another player winning would encourage onlookers to keep at it.
