Bitcoin price is constantly dropping for the last several days. What effects are putting it on Altcoins ? Is it bad or good ?

Yes it's bad, Altcoins are related to Bitcoin even if there can be slight differences, but the entire market is bullish if bitcoin is bullish and is bearish if bitcoin is bearish.

On that note, can an Altcoin that basically works like Bitcoin as a cryptocurrency (that could offer more based on the security of its own blockchain), possibly be an alternative to Bitcoin someday?

You have to beat the king of crypto at its own game though, to possibly achieve that. Shocked
