That's a very good question. I believe that this event most definitely meant something for this process.
My main focus would be however, something on the opposite side. The continental split prevented another deep ice age.
I think it has something to do with another ecosystem collapse. It was the sand

or rather another microorganism that went out of control. Plankton that we know today as the sands of sahara desert, conquered most of the oceanic surface and produced enough greenhouse gases to cool the planet. At the end of the day, it looks like life always tends to create ice ages.
