I think your confused. The selecting an address for a signed message is done by the person in control of that address. This is done in the bitcoin client.

My bet is he/she is entering address+isellyadabla in the box and hitting confirm. I doubt they have signed a message at all.
And instead of asking what and how do I sign, they bitch.
Not to mention they brought up how many mines they are a part of and how computer literate they are. Typical move by someone when they can't admit or see they are clearly missing something
