However Pacquiao is never one to trash talk. He doesn't need to do any of that to drive interest in his fights. He has an entire country that backs him almost unconditionally, and part of the reason they love him is that he doesn't engage in such things. However, Pacquiao usually appreciates opponents who approach the pre-fight build this way. He didn't seem bothered at all by the things Adrien Broner said before their bout in January, one Pacquiao won easily by unanimous decision.

Likewise, Pacquiao didn't seem put off by anything Floyd Mayweather said or did back in 2015. Pacquiao is a great fighter, but he's also a smart businessman. He knows that this kind of thing helps to sell fights, and thereby increases revenue, of which he earns a larger stake from his co-promotional duties.

Make no mistake about it, the July 20 Manny Pacquiao-Keith Thurman clash at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas is a good fight, a very good fight. Actually, it may be one of the best, most meaningful fights to be made among high-end welterweights in the top-heavy 147 lb. glamor division.

It also may mark the unofficial end of the line for one of the two combatants.
