I agree with you it's clearly a dishonest and shady practice from Bittrex. It's not their funds, they can't hold back your funds like that for dubious motivations. In fact the reasons they're evoking here don't even make sense.
If I think someone send me something illegal, I will send it back, I will not keep it at home... so if they think your funds are dubious, they should just refuse them.
