It would only be in vain if the thread presents no new discussion.
All the "leet" and birthday cake threads in Meta come to mind. "Always search before creating a topic" would be a simple tip. If any information is obfuscated due to inexact keywords then it doesn't matter as much. Propagating the forum with more keywords in similar topics means that eventually (if a question is sufficiently answered) there will be no need to create a new thread for the topic. Smiley



Somewhat off-topic:

I've reported a lot of Mycro participants, to the point where I've opened YOSHIE's profile repeatedly expecting to find horrible posts. It's a pleasant surprise and shows that the altcoin sections and 'bounty hunters' can still breathe life into conversation, provided the users aren't blasting away at keys talking about bitcoin going to $N if it reaches $M.
