Remember that a WIKI is editable by the community. It is a reflection of what we can glean from the core devs and other people, but we are always behind the curve and not always aware of what's changing.
I'd suggest that your tinkering with the API is a terrific opportunity to do two things:
1) Help us improve the API documentation as you learn the API by editing it to reflect what is accurate
2) At minimum: point out things that are out of date, as a practice, instead of just suggesting the wiki is "not reliable". Shame on you for that.
