Sorry you're having trouble, I'm running a few 2.0 wallets on Windows machines & syncing fine. And others are able to compile 2.1 on Linux from source, have you gone through the compile guide available here in the original post?

Yeah I tried the pre-reqs but got the error above on my ubuntu vm.
I'll download the wallet from scratch on windows and see if that works - just to confirm I should use the 2.0 nodes with the windows wallet?
