Did they suffer a lot during their KYC debacle? And luring their customers back again by offering this so called $10 promotion?
Eh, I think Coinbase did much the same thing back when I created an account with them back in 2015. IIRC they were giving away something like $5 in bitcoin for registering.

I agree. I've seen people do things in the crypto world for less than $10 that I wouldn't have believed, and I'm sure ShapeShift is well aware of this. But I'm not a fan of the Keepkey, and ShapeShift doesn't service US customers anymore, so I won't be taking advantage of the promotion. I bought a Keepkey not too long ago and didn't realize the wallet was linked to ShapeShift--that seems ridiculous to me that a hardware wallet should be dependent on an exchange.

If you're paying $10 for a hamburger, you're going to the wrong restaurant. Lol. I get your point, though. I wouldn't provide my dox to a crypto company for a $10 promotion.
