Why did Hakim Draper drop out of the project? was he the connection to the ODB estate?
Whats the reason for the pivot away from celebrity endorsed tokens? it seems like the mission of fanmix is to onboard indie artists, right?
Seems like Hakim had stepped back for a while for personal reasons Bryce didn't specify to me when I asked about it 2-3 days ago in a DM. But since then Hakim apparently posted - and since deleted - that tweet because he didn't like the fact that Bryce was now dealing directly with ODB's estate instead of through him.
The plan is not really a pivot it's just there are many steps, and the first steps with FanMix is to onboard indie artists. Bigger artist come later.
Keep in mind the big artists will naturally want to see it working before they're willing to commit, and in a lot of cases have to get the OK from their representation which is not an issue for unsigned artists.

Sorry, as an indie musician myself with label releases, supporters all around the world, and lots of contacts with other artists, its clear that bryce has no idea how different "fans" of indie artists are from fans of mainstream celebrity acts. indie artists have to go where the fans are, not the other way around. so the only way this hair-brained scheme would work is if celebrity acts brought consumers to the platform first so indie artists could play for them. furthermore, fans are extremely fickle; an exclusive release from Jay Z himself couldn't get people to use Tidal over what they were already on. and even if this idea would work, how could you possibly think a quality, functional product will be delivered after seeing how bad (and dead!) altmarket is? #delusional
