Everything I have stated here is true. I'm normally quite experienced with computers and I have to admit, the scenario does sound strange the password setup screen just... didn't appear. I went straight from install to a 'functioning' default wallet in about two clicks.
The alarming thing is I installed Electrum on my work computer today, clicked Next on default_wallet and the password/seed key setups screens DID come up.
I've spent the better part of two days trying to figure out what happened and can only come to three conclusions:
A. I've fallen victim to some kind of malware scam.
B. I briefly installed Electrum when playing around with Bitcoin back in 2014 and it's somehow defaulted to those setup details (although none of my regular passwords are working),
C. It's a bug (unlikely).
For the record, I'm running on a Mac (sorry, probably should have stated initially).
Not sure what else to do at this point.
