I think so. The clicks have doubled and it hasn't even been a very long time.
Subdomain name is not often good for link shorten website business, try to get a cheap domain name of $1 and be in control of your traffics.

I agree with you and the OP should not use a subdomain for things like this. They are better for sister sites or part of sites that share a similar niche.
