Well maybe if these ICOs weren't either scams or attempting to do unnecessary things, Eth might be doing better.  As it is, most ideas devs come up with are useless at best.

Ethereum is still a great coin, tho.  I don't think its best days are behind it at all, and I believe the altcoin market is just in a slump.  It's easy to predict doom and gloom when things aren't going well for alts, but this is a state of affairs we've seen many times before in the last 5-6 years.  There are plenty of things that can be done on the Eth platform, so don't give up hope.
