Brief history (should be on main Pirate website I believe as a proper intro/explanation of origin):

 ARRR started over a year ago as a experimental unnamed project in Komodo Labs to see if enforced privacy is possible using Komodo tech and zk-snarks (ZEC tech privacy tech).

 It went good, but it was not treated seriously until double spend protection was figured out.
 
 Since then PirateChain has 2 things no other coin has - both: double spend protection and full enforced privacy (no amounts + no addresses visible on the blockchain).
