I would have actually mined this had their been coins to mine.  

1. For a transaction to be valid at least one of it's inputs must be connected to an unspent output. Transaction amount is not changing no matter what else. Loops are explicitly allowed.

2. Unconnected input is reported with a standard message "That is not an issue." and without any further details.
