I am amazed how asian cryptocurrencies are growing after Xi Jinping statement. Did he really mean to support cryptocurrencies? I think they do not understand at all and therefore he wants to support the development of blockchain industry only. 
Accepting cryptocurrencies itself as a real thing is a good sign that MAY they'll support it in the future.
Xi Jinping didn't support cryptocurrency specifically, he only said he wants blockchain to be adopted. The Chinese government is going to release their own coin we are yet not sure whats it for but certainly they told the media that is a national cryptocurrency.
One most exciting things that is happening right now is that some of the countries also expresses interest in adopting blockchain. Who knows we'd see few years later digital yuan will also be on our phone wallets.
