Recently i got a message that one of my post was deleted by moderator for which i am feeling sad. Since those people whom post are deleted frequently are considered bad posters i want to know does this count only apply to post deleted by mods only ?
You should read forum rules (unofficial ones) to know possible reasons why your posts deleted (by moderators or OPs, I don't mention posts deleted by yourself here). I quoted some of the most common reasons.
1. No zero or low value, pointless or uninteresting posts or threads. [1][e]
2. No off-topic posts.
3. No trolling.
6. No linking to phishing or malware, without a warning and a valid reason. [e]
12. No duplicate posting in multiple boards (except for re-posting it in the local language boards if it's translated).
13. Bumps, "updates" are limited to once per 24 hours.[2]
21. Old bumps should be deleted. [2]
26. Local thread rules, if stated properly when the thread was started, specific enough and don't conflict with the forum rules, have to be followed.[e]
You can make a informative post but if it is off-topic or goes beyond local rules of OP, your post will be deleted by moderators or OP.
If we delete the post ourself or it is deleted by Self-moderated OP or the whole thread is trashed by the mods, then in these cases how do we look at them when considering good or bad posting ?
No. Deleted posts don't completely reflect average post quality of a user so it does not make sense if someone look at deleted posts as a indicator for good or bad poster.
In fact, there are some components to consider:
- Percentage of deleted posts (by moderators) per total posts. I believe that people will have skills and readily to spend time (if they have skills) to dig deeply like this.
- Posts deleted by OPs have very little effects on the judgement because OPs sometimes delete posts that they don't like. Bad OPs don't care about post quality, they simply delete posts that are opposite of their main thoughts. I don't say all OPs of self-moderated topics do this but it is truly a bias factor.
In contrast, to have an overview on post quality of one user, it is very easy to skim and scan post history in one to five pages. There is no need to look at deleted posts.
