Scalability problem has been discussed for years to the point it causes FUD, drama, network attack (in form transaction spam and malleability attack) and ultimately BCH hard-fork.

There are many proposal for both off-chain and on-chain scaling solution, but people avoid discussing or suggesting block size increase these days.
