He had claimed he purchased an island from Ecuador and formed his own country but Ecuador has denied it announcing, "Nithyananda has not been given asylum by Ecuador or has been helped by the government of Ecuador in purchasing any land or island in South America near or far from Ecuador." There are rumors that he is trying to seek asylum in Haiti or Mauritius.
