You can have your bot monitor https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=pm and have users send a PM with subscription requests instead of posting here. When your bot reads a message, it can add a label and remove the inbox label, so it knows which messages it has read.
I don't want to overspend on it, because I want to use it for many years, but I also don't want one that's not reliable. So basically I just need the time to sort it out.
I'd love to get a reliable VPS though, it makes my life so much easier. I'm currently uploading around 800,000 files per week.There are a number of 'cloud' providers that offer 'always free' instances of a small/micro server upon credit card and phone number verification.
It would also be much more resource efficient to store your data in a database rather than a bunch of files. This will also make it easier to locate/query information when you are looking for something. The above referenced 'cloud' providers also often offer 'always free' database hosting.
