Bitcoin Cash still has a block time of 10 minutes, which is makes it terrible for micropayments.
To be fair, any cryptocurrency is terrible for micropayment unless it has very fast block time (e.g. 10 seconds).Fast block time is usually achieved at the cost of security due to high orphaning risk, so that's no solution either. I wouldn't say that cryptocurrencies are terrible for micropayments, but instead that on-chain transactions are terrible for micropayments.
I am going to use ZEIT as an example. Try and not pop a blood vessel.
To demonstrate how On-Chain Transactions are Superior for MicroPayments with Energy Efficient coins.
30 seconds with a 1 MB blocksize is fast enough with ample daily transaction capacity for micro transactions.
Maximum ONCHAIN Transactions Capacity ~12 million transactions per day
As far as security goes , in BTC 1 block requires 10 minutes,
in that 10 minutes , ZEIT has 20 Blocks verses Bitcoin 1 block.
While a single block at 30 seconds is not as secure as a single block in 10 minutes,
the amount of blocks in the Time Frame is what is securing the coin.
So Bitcoin recommends 3 confirmations for low $ amounts, (takes 30 minutes)
in ZEIT that same 30 minutes buys you 60 Confirmations.
I would place ZEIT 60 confirmations verses btc 3 confirmations any day of the week, as more than enough security,
especially for micropayments.
Two other thing ZEIT does that makes it better for micropayments.
1. Process/Include Transactions in the order of appearance , not selected by fees like bitcoin.
2. Charge/Burn a fixed fee, that is .1 zeit or currently in fiat than is $ 0.0000003
(That is 1200000X cheaper than the current Bitcoin Average transaction fee of $.36 )
Even LN looks expensive (due to btc initial onchain costs) compared to ZEIT's Onchain MicroPayments.
FYI:
For those wondering, over 5 years and no one has been able to double spend on ZEIT at even 20 confirmations (10 minutes), much less 60.
Anyone thinking it is easy , feel free to prove me wrong.
