Property is actually quite decent as a safe asset.  Over population in areas make prices rise.  Finite amount of land, and when everything hits the gan at least you can build a little fort there and live on it  .  Seriously though land will always be a commodity people Need so cant go too wrong unless you buy in the wrong area.
