aBFT means that transactions are confirmed as fast as possible as they enter the network, instead of waiting for previous transactions to be confirmed. This significantly speeds up the network.

The transaction speed on Opera has been limited to 500 TPS because of the EVM. In Q3 of 2020 Fantom is expected to have its own virtual machine (FVM) which will drastically improve the transaction speed on Opera.
