I have been reading throughout many posts in the forum and everything seems to be like you said just wild theoris, so if I want legit information about the MT.gox situation what news-site should be reading on to know for sure that this is actuall info.
I don't really know. For fastest news I think you have to read this forum and the Service Discussion forum and just try to weed out the attention seekers who make bold unverifiable claims from people who clearly mark speculation and offer sources.

That's a  lot of work.

Otherwise I think just read any tech news source, then follow up any story from there here. Bitcoin was even on UK's BBC news last night.

but if bitcoinbuilder was buying goxbtc then that means there still is hope for the lost btc, why else would a company go in and buy it?
Well it is possible that they were just wrong. Companies are run by people and people can make a wrong call. There's a few people on this forum who have admitted they had all their company funds sitting in MtGox. Makes you wonder about their judgement.

It is also possible that they have more sway within MtGox than most individuals. Some insider contact that was promising to make them good. We have no way of knowing.

https://www.bitcoinbuilder.com/ is now saying "2.Until mtgox is back, we can't process GOXBTC withdrawals (or deposits)", so that option isn't available to you anyway. If MtGox were to come back and your brother could see his funds again but not withdraw them, then maybe BitcoinBuilder would be an option again. The rates offered on there now are less than 0.2BTC per goxBTC though.
